But before we go, what is a dystopia?

  By jdavis58 April 21, 2022 - 21:56 April 22, 2022 Definition

A dystopia can be described as a society that is under oppression (that they are usually unaware of) because it’s beneficial to the government. Throughout this semester I have been able to come up with a more concise definition of a dystopia. I have also been able to deepen my Continue reading

Started from the Bottom Now We’re Here

  By jdavis58 April 12, 2022 - 01:15 April 12, 2022 General, Production Notes

My comfort working in a group has developed as the semester has progressed. I took XU Leads this semester and initially, I didn’t see the point, but throughout the course of the semester, I have become more comfortable and aware of how I lead and how I want to lead. Continue reading

If I Think I Can, Can I?

  By jdavis58 April 8, 2022 - 00:41 April 8, 2022 General, Postread

I agree with Kim Stanley Robinson to an extent. Having a positive mindset is essential in order to handle changes and tough situations. However, utopian and positive thinking can only get you so far. Imagining that things could get better is the first step but not the key step. It Continue reading

Is religion the answer to oppression?

  By jdavis58 April 3, 2022 - 21:25 April 8, 2022 Class Notes, General

Edward Snowden: Don’t forget the Future

  By jdavis58 March 19, 2022 - 14:19 April 22, 2022 Class Notes, General

After watching the interview with Edward Snowden, I find his claims about the state of privacy in the United States today to be correct. The invasion of privacy that the American government is conducting on its citizens is completely absurd and an abuse of power. From the video, I have Continue reading

Me + Group Work

  By jdavis58 February 6, 2022 - 14:32 February 8, 2022 Production Notes

I am pretty comfortable with working in a group but prefer to work alone. Working in groups can be unpredictable which causes some concern. I feel as if I am very independent and strategic with most things that I do and it could be a bit more difficult to do Continue reading

How Many Faces of Oppression Exist in America Today?

  By jdavis58 January 24, 2022 - 22:55 April 22, 2022 General, Postread

Iris Young discusses the faces of oppression which have an everyday affect on people whether we know it or not. The five faces of oppression are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. Oppression is not always about inhumane treatment. Deprivation is also included in oppression. Most times it is Continue reading

What is a Dystopia?

  By jdavis58 January 15, 2022 - 19:34 February 4, 2022 Definition, General

Based on my experience with books, film, and reality, I would define dystopia as a society in which the treatment of its people is poor and can be overcrowded, this is usually run by a group of people in a government who profit off the misfortunes of the society. I Continue reading
