I believe that Eco’s Ur Fascism currently does exist in the present society. Specifically in the way that Eco chose to define it in number 6 stating that “the appeal to a frustrated middle class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups.” The middle class still suffers, they financially stable enough to not need government assistance but not financially stable enough to pay for all of their children to go to college. In an article from Vox titled, “Americas Hollow Middle Class”, it discusses how most middle class people have to live month to month with little to no savings for emergencies. According to the article, “In 2019, the middle class was spending about $4,900 a year on out of pocket health care costs”. This is why I still believe that Ur Fascism still exists because the middle class is still suffering and struggling.
