Realistic Thinking

I understand where Kim Stanley was coming from but I do believe you must be realistic in your thinking. In her writing she describes how perfect civilization would be “political order—that provides adequate food, water, shelter, clothing, education, and health care for all eight billion humans, while also protecting the livelihood of all the remaining mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, plants, and other life-forms that we share and co-create this biosphere with.” Realistically based on the society we live in this impossible, not because we don’t have the physical means to achieve this but because in the world we live in people would rather be in competition or superior to others than be treated equally or have equal access to certain things. Although I agree with her that we should give up pessimistic thinking I just strongly believe we have to be realistic, but having hopes leads to downfalls.
