As we shift away from the idea that utopian societies exist, and uncover concepts known to dystopian societies. It is more common for us to analyze governments as being on a spectrum of most dystopian to least dystopian; favoring the least dystopian governments. After reviewing Hobbes’ writing, my belief is to support a Constitutional Republic better known as the democracy we have in the United States.
A republic is a form of government in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives. This form of government includes a separation of power, therefore head of state and other representatives do not have uncontrollable power. There is a Constitution that defines the laws of the land in correspondence to what the elected individuals find in the best interest of the people. A republic is often most favorable because it gives individuals the right to opinions and to choose. As we have seen in history, given one ruler ultimate power can cause immoral actions to occur, with justifications of the nation.
I’m sure we all can agree that while a democracy does have flaws this is the best form of government that supports its people. Instead of overly contributing to the dominance of military might, we also see how it takes the support of their citizens and pours back into the society. Again I believe this is the best choice for government on the spectrum of least dystopian to more dystopian
