Dystopia Degree

By: Jordan Allen

I believe that the higher education system is a dystopia. The reason why I think this is because many people have to pay thousands of dollars in order to get into an institution just to receive a degree. This degree puts people in positions to get higher paying jobs. In most cases this separates the rich from the poor. There are many people who are smart enough to complete the same steps, but due to insufficient financial funds they aren’t able to. The higher education system shouldn’t have people needing constant scholarships and grants to be put in positions to prove that they are worthy.

Living in one of the wealthiest countries, I think that education should be cheaper if not free. College being cheaper would change the economy because it would allow more people to afford to get a degree in order to be qualified for a higher paying career. “As college students graduate without debt, this would give them the ability to earn, save and spend immediately, which could stimulate the economy” (Bouchrika). This allows people to completely chase their dreams without being financially drained.
