I do not believe that religion itself is strong enough to defeat a dystopia. Based on the examples, I would say yes because it has proven to work. But in reality, I do not think that religion could help fight against oppression. Religion could be one of many things that could help but religion alone is not strong enough. If Winston had something to believe in, a solid drive with meaning, and a church to back him up, then I would say religion could be the answer to defeating dystopia. In most dystopias I have viewed and read, their societies did not have a church or a religion. Religion was one of the critical aspects of everyday life that were missing from these people. With the help of more than one person who believes in the same thing as you and wants change, religion is the possible answer to defeating dystopias as Ti-Jean was able to.
