A utopia is defined as “an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect”. While I know that one can never achieve perfection, I do believe that one can strive towards it. The same is true in understanding the goals of society. The writer Kim Stanley Robinson says, “It’s crucial to keep imagining that things could get better, and furthermore to imagine how they might get better.” I completely agree that if society focuses on the fact that improvement is achievable and how the improvement can be achieved, we could make great strides. I feel as though focusing on a dystopian future could be distracting from the real goals to get better. Essentially, we would be focusing on how not to be like the plot of a dystopian novel when we could gain by putting energy into how to become a true utopia.
